The Environment
Within the Village
The village of La Tania has been built fairly recently and as a result, numerous ecological and environmental initiatives have played a key part in the design and build of the hamlet. All buildings are wood clad, integrating them beautifully into the surrounding countryside.
Vehicles are kept away from the pedestrianised Center of the village, leaving visitors to forget that cars exist during their stay in this peaceful and unique resort.

Further contributing to the ecological sensitivity, all buildings are fitted with very effective insulation systems to ensure that energy is not wasted whenever possible.

Within the Ski Area
In the Three Valleys ski area, sustainable development is not a fad but a state of mind. The geographical site of Three Valleys was identified over 60 years ago as an ideal place for creating an interlinked ski area. The Three Valleys bring together all the essential assets required for the practice of winter sports:
- Three parallel valleys with various cols which enable a large numbers of links between the valleys
- A ski area of which 85% is located at over 1,800m altitude, providing guaranteed snow cover
- There are a large number of glaciers surrounding the area: Peclet, Gébroulaz, le Borgne, Le Bouchet
All of the stakeholders in the Three Valleys are conscious of the necessity of protecting its natural heritage and the development of the ski area is an example of this.
In the Three Valleys, the snow guns are latest generation, leading to tangible savings in water and electricity
whilst optimising yieldIt is important to remember that in France artificial snow is composed purely of air and water, with no additives used, which is not the case in other countries.

It should also be noted that the water used for the snow guns is treated with UV rays to eliminate any risk of contamination. The ski lifts are operated by electricity, part of which is renewable, from wind turbines and the hydro-electric plant.
Over the past 15 years, many ski lifts have been replaced by more efficient models, which has enabled a reduction in the total number of ski lifts in the ski area and thus in the visual impact, whilst improving total passenger traffic.
Recycling is also found in every aspect of life in the Three Valleys: each resort has implemented waste sorting and the slope services systematically recycle engine oil from the grooming machines and municipal workshops.
